In 1932, Harry Goro Watanabe established the Oriental Trading Company after moving to Omaha, NE from Japan. The operations were transferred to 1115 Farnam Street in 1938. This three story leased building became OTC’s home for more than 30 years. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II, the main office began shifting their emphasis to a growing carnival trade in the United States. The company began supplying trinkets, prizes, and give-aways to several carnival outfits. On September 6, 1988, Harry Goro Watanabe’s son, Gordon Watanabe, broke away from OTC and created Nobbies, Your Ultimate Party Superstore. Nobbies was first located on 120th and Dodge. In August of 1993, Nobbies moved their store to a larger building on 120th and Center St. in the Bel-Air Plaza.
